I’ve learned quite a bit about web 2.0 in the past six months. Some of it is confusing and some of it makes my life so much easier. It allows me to communicate and collaborate with people from all over the world. I’m learning much more about the world around me.

My newest tool I picked up yesterday was a website called issuu. It allows users to upload PDF files and then share them online (people browse through them like a magazine). This will be a perfect tool for my advertising and public relations students as they prepare their portfolios. We’ll put them online!

Chaco the Tarantula

Chaco the Tarantula

Although the photo is out of focus, this is the newest member of the Stanton family – Chaco the Tarantula. Jackson’s 8th birthday is on Friday and he wanted a pet. He loves science and so we discussed various pets that could survive in our little house with 5 people (including a very rambunctious (sp?) two year old!

We settled on a tarantula. He takes little maintenance, eats only a cricket each week, loves the dark and stays in his CritterKeeper!!!!! He’s pretty small right now (only about 1.5 inches wide) but will grow over the next couple of years and should live for around 15 years!

Welcome to the family Chaco!

A good friend and colleague of mine is in Denver this week with a group of journalism students covering the Democratic National Convention. I wish I were there with her. I e-mailed last night and asked if she could make a small purchase for Dana and I – Obama 08 t-shirts! She e-mailed this evening that she got the shirts for us today and they are gearing up for a busy week.

You can read about their journeys here: http://blogs.hdnews.net/tigersdenver/

Friday Evening

March 7, 2008

Hi Everyone,

We have had a good week.  The kids are getting along much better – Gabe and Grace still have their moments, but at least now and then it is a good moment.

We have a new invention that makes our lives a little easier.  Our friends the Crowleys bolted together two kiddie gates to keep their dog out of the dining room.  Since they don’t need it any more they gave it to us.  One of our big problems is keeping Gabe from destroying the kitchen and then dragging his loot to the living room.  Neither he nor Grace can get over it.  If Gabe gets frustrated enough he will ram it and break it down, but most of the time it holds.  I figure at some point he will completely destroy it, but for now we can at least cook in peace.

Here are some pics from the week.

Hays Ice Storm

December 11, 2007

The ice storm of December 2007 has hit us. It started raining yesterday afternoon and went throughout the night. Jackson and Dana had no school today, but I had to go in this afternoon to listen to graduate student presentations (it is finals week at FHSU). Here are some pictures of the ice storm.
